Trulieve TruFlower Review: Space Age Cake (Indica) (2024)

Space Age Cake is one of Trulieve’s newest strains at this time, released in late 2020. GSC crosses (which often ead to “cake” strains) have been extremely popular in the cannabis world as of late, and Space Age Cake is another example; it crosses GSC with a strain called Snow Lotus.

After seeing many rave reviews for this strain across social media, I finally found it in stock at my local dispensary, and decided to give it a try. Many have compared it to GrowHealthy’s popular Wookie Girl strain, which further piqued my interest.

In short, I’m glad I gave this strain a try, as it has easily become one of my top 3 favorite indica strains from Trulieve.

Quick Facts:

Space Age Cake (AKA Space Cake – Indica)

It should be noted that this strain has the same genetics as “Space Cake” found on many different cannabis reference pages. For now, I will assume these two strains to be one in the same. The one possible difference (based off what I’ve seen on social media) *could* be that Space Age Cake is the result of crossing the specific “Forum Cut” GSC phenotype with Snow Lotus, where Space Cake is not specific as to which GSC pheno is used.

This is the first lab report I’ve seen that has tested for flavonoids, which are also said to influence the taste and smell of cannabis. It will be interesting to see the science evolve as we work to understand more about what produces the unique nuances in taste, smell, and effects for each strain.

Appearance/Cure

This eighth of Space Age Cake has been grown and cured extremely well. One of the first things I noticed was the abundance, larger size/longer length, and dusty gold color of the trichomes; this usually indicates that the plant was allowed to fully mature before harvest, which is more desirable for us as medical cannabis patients, as it usually leads to an overall better and more effective medicine in the flowers it produces.

These nugs are very dense and moderately sticky, and had no need for any moisture regulation (Integra 2-Way Humidity Packs added to the jar), as the moisture content is nearly perfect.

I’ve had consistently good experiences with Trulieve’s flower in this area recently, and I hope it is a sign that they’ve listed to patients as we have demanded higher quality medicine across the industry, and is a good indication of more progress in 2021.

Appearance/Cure Rating: 8.20/10.00

Smell/Taste

Space Age Cake is a strain with a very “rich” smell and taste profile. Other Trulieve strains that I’ve thought had rich profiles include Gorilla Grapes, Paradise Waits, and Skywalker OG – to name a few. Another indication of this, is the relatively high and diverse terpene content indicated in the lab report at the beginning of this review.

Opening the jar reveals an immediately noticeable, moderately pungent bouquet of sweet cake, hash, and skunk, with hints of nutty and fruity scents lingering as well. I can see where others have compared the smell and taste of this strain to Wookie Girl – it does remind me of that strain in ways. However, I would say that Space Age Cake is “heavier” and more on the skunky/musky side, where Wookie Girl is a bit “lighter” with more sweet and fruity aromas.

When the nugs are broken or ground up, Space Age Cake smells much more gas/fuel, with sour and nutty aromas dominating as well. Again, this is one of the more complex terpene profiles that I’ve come across recently.

Space Age Cake has a predominantly sweet cake taste when smoked, with hints of hash, fuel, and fruit on the exhale. Very enjoyable strain in this category.

Smell/Taste Rating: 8.40/10.00

Effects/Medical Use

Space Age Cake is a more balanced indica strain, bringing in a strong cerebral rush soon after smoking. I found this to invoke introspective and creative mindsets, and also to be slightly euphoric and uplifting.

The “warm body” sensation that many indica strains bring is present as well, and it becomes noticeable fairly early in the effects timeline – perhaps around 15-20 minutes after the first hit, or even sooner. The balance of cerebral and hybrid effects again reminds me of Wookie Girl, though I find Space Age Cake to be a slightly heavier and more indica-dominant strain than the former.

In higher doses, this strain can make me feel a bit sedated and sleepy. I also found it to be notable for appetite stimulation.

Possibly good for treating:

  • Good for relaxation
  • Relief of moderate skeletal/muscular aches and pains
  • Relief of minor to moderate nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort
  • Insomnia(in higher doses)
  • Lack of appetite
  • Possibly good for creativity
  • Headaches

I’m definitely no medical doctor, so please take the preceding conditions only as my own personal observations from using this strain and having experience with a multitude of different cannabis strains. Everybody is different, and every body reacts differently to various medications.

Effects Rating: 8.75/10.00

Overall, I would best describe Space Age Cake as an “outstanding” indica strain from Trulieve.

Hopefully, Trulieve keeps this strain around, as I believe it has potential to be a patient favorite from them. I also welcome the expansion of Trulieve’s genetics, and will continue to purchase and review new strains for you here on FLMCC.net as they become available in my area.
