Easy Holiday Fudge

I always get so excited to enjoy eggnog during Christmas time. It also makes a great addition to so many recipes, like this homemade fudge, eggnog cookies, eggnog pie and eggnog French toast.

If there’s one thing that screams Christmas time, it’s fudge! I love to make a few different fudge recipes during the holiday season like my 3-ingredient fudge, peanut butter chocolate fudge or snickerdoodle fudge and of course this eggnog fudge is always included. It’s perfectly creamy, chocolaty and has amazing eggnog flavor.

The best part about this recipe is that it’s super easy to whip up and comes together in about 30 minutes along with this peppermint bark. Then just place it in the fridge or freezer and you’ll have the perfect sweet treat on hand to enjoy whenever you need a little pick me up. :)

It also makes a great edible gift and is always a hit with anyone that tries it. Just wrap the fudge in cellophane and add a cute Christmas tag. Gifts from the kitchen are always the best!

Ingredients

  • Sugar: I use granulated sugar
  • Butter: I used salted. If you use unsalted, then add a pinch of salt.
  • Eggnog: My favorite brand is Darigold.
  • White baking chocolate: I love to use Ghiradelli.
  • Ground nutmeg: this add the perfect flavor.
  • Marshmallow creme: this creme will make the fudge nice and creamy.
  • Vanilla extract: I like to use pure vanilla extract for great flavor.

How to Make Eggnog Fudge

Step 1: Boil the Sugar, Butter and Eggnog

In a medium saucepan over medium-heat, bring the sugar, butter and eggnog to a full boil. Continue to let boil until a candy thermometer reaches 234°F. Remember to stir the mixture constantly the whole time to prevent scorching.

Step 2: Add Remaining Ingredients

Remove from heat and add in the white chocolate and nutmeg, stirring until the chocolate is melted. Then immediately stir in the marshmallow creme and vanilla extract. Beat with an electric mixer until well blended.

Step 3: Pour in Dish and Refrigerate

Pour the mixture into a buttered or parchment-lined 8×8″ pan and sprinkle extra nutmeg on top. Place in refrigerator until cool, then cut into squares.

I haven’t tried, but I’m afraid it wouldn’t have enough fat to hold the shape.

Best Eggnog Recipe

Game plan: It's good to give the eggnog a full 3 weeks of aging or up to 1 year, but you can drink it right away; however, the flavor will be less rounded.

How long is homemade eggnog good for? ›

If it's 40–50 proof or above you can keep it forever in the refrigerator. I've had some eggnog I made before Christmas 2018 that's still in the fridge and it should last until I make the next 2 gallons of it (no Not all for me, I share a drop with friends). 1,750 Ml of liqueur per gallon.

Is it better to freeze or refrigerate fudge? ›

So to recap, it's best to store proper fudge at room temperature. Keeping it in the fridge takes out all its moisture, drying it out. Homemade fudge is best in the fridge. No matter where you store it, the goal is to protect the fudge from exposure to the elements so airtight containers are best!

Why can't you refrigerate fudge? ›

Fudge is best stored at room temperature for 2 to 3 weeks wrapped up in its original wax paper. NEVER REFRIGERATE your fudge as this will draw out the moisture and leave you with dry, crumbly fudge.

Will fudge harden in fridge? ›

Harden the fudge: Place your container or tins in the fridge for 2 hours, which is the time it takes for the fudge to set. Once it's hardened, cut the fudge into 12 pieces or remove it from the muffin tins. Store in the fridge or the freezer (if you don't devour it right away).

How do I know if eggnog has gone bad? ›

But, you don't have to be a food scientist to figure out if your eggnog has gone bad. If it is lumpy (ew), has a sour and unpleasant odor, or if it has lost its color and has turned from beige yellowish to another hue, it's time to throw it out. But, don't be disheartened if you do have to pitch your box of nog.

Can eggnog be frozen for later use? ›

Eggnog may be frozen for up to six months. For best results, freeze eggnog in a container with a little extra room (about 1/2-inch of space from the top) to allow for expansion during freezing. Frozen egg nog should be good for about 6 months, whether it is store bought or home made.

Does alcoholic eggnog go bad if refrigerated? ›

Opened bottled eggnog with alcohol: Once opened, the alcoholic eggnog may last several weeks in the fridge [1].
